Cargo's Got The Goods

When a chance to roll out something interesting at one of Sydney City's most well known haunts popped up, we were sure to leave safe in the banks where it belongs.

Having recently been given a make over fit to win a renno reality show, we have been busy cooking up a new night for our friends at Cargo Bar to give its new look an attitude to match.

Stepping out from under the long shadow of the ubiquitous "soloist on a stool", we looked to create a much needed outlet for our clever musical type mates to deliver an interesting and engaging addition to the Darling Harbour and Barangaroo precinct. Players and producers switch gears from their better known projects to give the familiar a freshen up by re-interpreting, re-inventing and re-invigorating some of their faves. Think DIY "Like a Version"

Talented types like card carrying member of party starting posse Motorik, For Life or Adam Bozzetto to his Mum, flexes his production chops with a Friday afternoon twist, with Ross Ferraro of The Goods also taking a turn to play good vibe traffic controller. An outlet to concoct different duo and trio configurations to deliver their set lists of same same but different, has left us with no shortage of folks excited to do fun things.

Providing platforms for creativity to diversify the scene, showcase local talent and help broaden audience experiences is important to us. With the support of the good sorts at Cargo, we are looking forward to serving up Friday nights with a pinch of interesting, a dash of engaging and a liberal dose of entertaining. One less cookie cutter Friday night anyone?

Miracle hits Selina's this October

Miracle hits Selina's this October

At the heart of Coogee's now bubbling live music hub, Easy Saturdays at Selina's are bringing hip hop's newest scene-stirrer Miracle to the dance floor this October 11th following their Spring Break event.

With his debut album less than 2 months old, Miracle has an already impressive list of support slots under his belt including purveyors of cool ASAP Rocky, Childish Gambino and Chingy verifying his performance abilities. Ending up on 'One To Watch' lists from both GQ and Pagesdigital the wonder boy's energetic stage show will include singles 'Never Gets Old' and 'Endless Summer' along with some reinventions. The genres will meld when Miracle throws down over known hits from Bluejuice and Angus & Julia Stone, undeniable party starters!

To usher in the daylight, DJs Oddular and Tyro will stimulate the senses when combining their killer beats with a vivid light show.

Bringing a whole new meaning to Saturdays, EASY is Coogee's only late night party. With a 10pm start and no lock out this auspicious club caters for the night owls. Offering an all night dance party adjacent to the beach, which will provide the perfect backdrop for the morning sunrise.

Escape the concrete jungle to a cultural haven unlike any other this October 11th, as EASY Saturdays offers the sounds of Miracle with change from your $10!

Bus Mix 220314

Bus Mix 220314Here's the second mix of fresh tunes composed on the 438 from Five Dock to Glebe. This week sees a selection of deep and soulful tracks, many of which are brand new releases.

Nico Jaar teams up with Sasha Spielberg (daughter of the famous film director) for a minimal beat driven love song. Elsewhere you'll find RnB/dance/pop/hip hop star Kelis driven to greater depths by Mount Kimbie on Ninja Tune, a couple of classics from both Saint Etienne and Arthur Russell given a 2014 rerun and something brand new from Detroit Swindle (a name to look out for). Finally, keep an ear peeled for an appearance by everybody's favourite celebrity twerp, J**** B*****. given a slight twist by vapourwave artist, Saint Pepsi.

Play this mix on your next journey, be it to work or on the weekend - We hope it sees you happy and safe!

Bus Mix 050314

Bus Mix 050314Welcome to the very first Musicland Bus Mix, a musical selection mixed entirely in transit between my stop on Parramatta Rd near Five Dock and the illustrious Musicland headquarters here in Glebe.

The music you will hear is a unique combination of some of the office faves that help us get through the working day, some brand new music gleaned from the internet and some dusty gems from the recent past that deserve to be heard again. The mixes are all done on an iPad mini using Tractor.

Enjoy!
