Go a little Green with envy

No need to be the same vintage as the white clad folks at the local bowlo, to recall the equally fierce competition that took place off the immaculately groomed greens. The rejuvenation of the humble bowling club became the new battleground for filtered food porn celebrity, curated Facebook fame and a share of Syd city's calorie count.

Among these was the 125 yr old Norths Bowling Club, now known as The Greens, North Sydney. Perched on top of the hill next to North Sydney Oval, we're pretty sure the name has something to do with the fact that the place is surrounded by it's namesake: ovals, parks, trees.

The only thing not particularly green are the kitchen brigade who have injected a measured amount of modern into the food, with suckling pig terrine and house smoked trout salad sitting comfortably next to pan roasted sirloin and fish and chips. So long sliced mystery meat in bain maries.

While the vibrant, manicured greens are still regularly patrolled by rollers who take it seriously enough to keep their shoes on, getting people outside of the APIA Insurance mailing list meant a similar refresh on the entertainment front.

What to do with a lush, city oasis location with carpet like grass that requires more maintenance than Rupert Murdoch's ex-wives? Hello Flicks at The Greens.

A month long open air cinema with a program of classics, cults and currents including Trainwreck, Dirty Dancing, Jurassic Park and Inside Out was rolled out, and finished off with bean bags, popcorn and choc tops.

Flicks highlighted the unique experience The Greens can offer: fresh, seasonal dining and full bar amenities, footsteps away from movies in the moonlight with a harbour backdrop.

Press play on the clip below and go a little green with envy.

(spoiler alert, The Greens is a client of Musicland)
